Once upon a time, only a few cellular phone companies existed. The prices that customers had to pay in order to use wireless services were astronomical, and the cell phone devices and cell phone plans were not all that.
As time went by, more and more wireless cellular companies began to appear in the market. As the number of wireless carriers increased, the prices for the cell phones went down, and the wireless carriers had to come up with new and better cell phone plans.
Now with the purchase of T-Mobile by AT&T Wireless everything will more than likely revert back to the ways things were before. Think about ot. AT&T just eleiminated a big chunck of the competition out of the market. So the need to provide customers more in order to grow is going away slowly.
